County Population, 54,900
by Granbury EDC
Everyone who lives in Hood County has known for some time that the county was growing at a fast rate. Now NCTCOG (North Central Texas Council of Governments) has furnished updated population figures providing the proof. In late June they released the population of Hood County as 54,900. At the close of 2007, the population number used by statistician was 49,176 with an estimated growth for 2011 as 55,576. This means Hood County is virtually at the 2011 population estimate right now! We are growing at an annual rate of 2.66%, which equates to a population just below 60,000 in 5 years.
This is good for those of us trying to convince retailers to locate here. However, for those who have lived in Hood County all or most of their lives, it can be a difficult adjustment. Businessman and realtor Lee Overstreet, who has lived in Granbury all of his life, says, “I have seen many changes over the past 50 plus years. The growth has been great economically for the area, but there are always growing pains. Keeping up with the infrastructure has been the greatest challenge and will continue to be in the future, however, it is a good problem to have. Hindsight is always 20/20, but the leaders of our community continue to plan for the future. I certainly wouldn’t trade today for Hood County in 1960!”
